While every pregnancy is bound to be different, each follows a similar timeline as your baby grows. Being familiar with the important milestones is a must for expectant mothers, and South Baldwin Obstetrics & Gynecology PC in Foley, AL, wants to share in the excitement of your growing baby. As leaders in prenatal health, they outline a general timeline of pregnancy.

Your Pregnancy Timeline: An OB-GYN on What You Can Expect

First Trimester (Weeks One-12)

Your body will begin changing quickly within the first trimester. In terms of physical changes, nausea can increase as hormone levels do. This usually occurs around week seven, by which time the embryo will have doubled in size. In terms of your baby’s growth, doctors can typically detect a heartbeat as early as week eight, and by week 12 most women begin showing.

Second Trimester (Weeks 13-27)

pregnancyDuring the second trimester, many of the bothersome symptoms you experienced at the beginning of your pregnancy may subside. Many women find that nausea decreases during the second trimester, and as a result, food aversion may become less of an issue. At week 16, it’s common for the unborn child to begin moving, which can be a new and exciting experience for expecting moms.

Third Trimester (Week 28-Birth)

Your baby will grow rapidly during the third trimester. By week 40, many babies weigh up to nine pounds. In preparation for delivery, the baby will descend lower into the pelvis, which can lessen any pressure on the lungs experienced during previous trimesters.
