One major step in the application and acceptance of the ASME standards internationally has been the translation into Spanish of the ASME B30.5, Mobile and Locomotive Cranes. The B30.5 Standard is one of the ASME’s most requested Safety Standards and is widely allied throughout the building and construction industries. It is intended for manufacturers, owners, employers, users, and others concerned with the specification, buying, maintenance, training, and safe use of mobile cranes. ASME B30.5 offers comprehensive solutions in the construction, inspection, testing, maintenance and operation of mobile cranes.

The ASME B30 Committee is one of the many Codes and Standards Committees that are managed by ASME. The codes standards are developed in accordance with procedures accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and to ensure that, individual appointments are based on various criteria including:

  • craneExperience and technical qualifications.
  • Ability to actively participate in committee activities.
  • Business interest of the organization, if any, that financially supports the members.
  • The balance of interests existing in the committee.
  • The limit on the number of members for a committee.

The Main B30 Committee has at least 28 Sub-committees, of which B30.5 is one. We will discuss the sub-committees in a future article.
