Some movie characters are remembered for iconic lines that become part of the American lexicon, while others are brought to life by inspired performances and superb writing. Some of the best characters, though, are defined by their vehicles as much as anything else, and in some cases, a car can become a character in its own right. Below are some of the most beloved antique cars in cinema.

4 Favorite Classic Cars From the Movies

1. Frank Bullitt’s Mustang

antique carsSteve McQueen’s epic chase scene in Bullitt remains one of the most influential in movie history, thanks in part to the power and aggressive styling of the 1968 Mustang GT 390 driven by Frank Bullitt. For this role, the dark highland green car was stripped of its badges and driving lights for a slick, mysterious look.

2. James Bond’s Aston Martin

No list of Hollywood’s best antique cars would be complete without a mention of James Bond’s 1963 Aston Martin DB5. Various Bond actors have sat behind the wheel over the years, making it as integral to the Bond mythos as a dry martini, shaken not stirred.

3. Greased Lightning

Grease just wouldn’t be the same without Greased Lightning, a battered 1948 Ford de Luxe the T-Birds lovingly restore into a winner. The red fantasy version with the plexiglass hood is actually a different car, with some unique body modifications.

4. John Wick’s Mustang

While it doesn’t get as much screen time as other automotive movie stars, the theft of John Wick’s 1969 Mustang sets the whole film in motion. For the most part, the gray Mustang is faithfully restored, which will please muscle car lovers everywhere.
