You have probably tried your hand at a traditional game of pool before. Whether at your local pool hall or an in-home table, American-Style Eight Ball is the most common way to play. However, there are a number of other styles anyone, from a novice to a professional, will enjoy. To help, The Office Lounge, a top sports bar and pool hall in Foley, AL, has shared their top three.

3 Types of Billiards Games

Cutthroat

pool hallA billiards favorite, known either as Cutthroat or Elimination, requires three players. With more people, divide evenly into three teams. Each one attempts to pocket the balls of the other players. The 15 traditional balls are divided evenly. One player claims numbers one through five, another takes six through 10, and the last will have 11 through 15. If you own one through five, you will want to try to pocket any numbered ball that’s not your own.

One Pocket

One Pocket requires a player to sink the majority of the 15 balls, so eight or more, into a single pocket on the table. Before the first hit, each player will claim their preferred pocket. If a ball is accidentally hit into an opponents spot, it stays and counts for the opponent. If any shot is placed into a non-claimed pocket, it is returned to the tabletop.

Nine Ball

Take balls numbered one through nine, as well as the cue ball. With two or more players, the object is to sink each ball in numerical order. If you hit the one ball in first, you can continue with your turn until you miss. The first person to pocket the nine ball wins the game. If you accidentally hit in a ball out of order, take it out and place it back on the table.
