When you’re moving, you have a lot on your mind. The last thing you should have to deal with is figuring out which items get boxed up and which don’t. To help make your move easier, here are a few common household goods you shouldn’t pack.

Never Pack These Items When Moving

Valuables

Guns, cash, and jewelry are possessions you may already know shouldn’t be packed. But what about family heirlooms that may not be worth a lot of money? Keep these with you, too. You should also hold on to important documents, such as birth certificates, passports, and home closing papers.

Medication

Moving trucks sometimes get hot, so keep your over-the-counter and prescription medications with you in a bag. Not only will they stay at a safe temperature, but you’ll know exactly where they are if you need them during the move. This includes pet medicines.

Hazards & Flammables

movingThere are quite a few dangerous items that should never be packed. These include aerosol cans, car batteries, paints, lighters and matches, and ammunition. Your local fire department can tell you where you can safely dispose of these items, or you can haul them with you.

Perishables

Frozen food, produce, wine, and liquor shouldn’t be packed. They can be donated to a food bank or kept with you if they don’t need to be kept cold. Houseplants and flowers need to stay out of moving boxes, too, since they could get too hot or cold.
