In the state of Illinois, before filling out an application, citizens must complete at least 16 hours of training with an Illinois State Police-approved instructor. Typically, this CCW training can be finished with two eight-hour classes. Designed for individuals with no prior training, the first session covers the fundamentals of gun ownership. If you have already obtained other NRA certificates or an out-of-state permit, you may be qualified to waive this first class.

Other Requirements

When applying for your license, you must be at least 21 years of age and not prohibited by federal law to possess a firearm. Additionally, you should have a valid Driver’s License or State Identification card and a valid Firearms Owner’s Identification Card. You must also be able to provide proof of the last ten years of your residency. If you are not an Illinois resident, then you will need a notarized affidavit documenting your eligibility under state and federal laws.

Concealed Carry Permit Options

The Illinois Concealed Carry Permit remains valid for five years and is typically honored in 27 states, including most of the Midwest. However, remember that Illinois residents may also be qualified to obtain a Florida non-resident permit, which is valid for seven years and honored in 31 states. You can also register for a Utah non-resident permit and a Missouri non-resident permit if you plan to carry a firearm in either of these states.
