It’s the most wonderful time of the year!!  Spending time with loved ones and enjoying the beauty of the holidays shouldn’t come with added stress, or extra pounds. Keep healthy choices on hand by offering simple, fresh ideas for your next social gathering. 

Bring in some color, crunch and flavor and your guests won’t miss the high-calories usuals. It’s easy to display a holiday shaped vegetable or fruit tray. You can position the veggies into a star or tree pattern on a platter and add pops of different colors. Add tomatoes and red bell pepper for reds color. Add broccoli, celery, basil, and cucumber for your green color. Finish with julienned yellow bell pepper for the tree topper. Cover the base in cauliflower for snow, add some stick pretzels for the trunk and you’re set. This will be a big hit with the kiddos too!!

Another holiday favorite  are Caprese Skewers. You can make these at home by alternating a basil leaf, a cherry tomato, and a ball of fresh mozzarella cheese onto skewers. Drizzle them with extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper to finish. These are very light but full of flavor and look elegant for your holiday table.

Don't forget the lean protein for you and your guests. Shrimp cocktail is a great low-calorie option. Additional ideas include turkey meatballs, or smoked salmon and capers.
