One of the best ways to improve your curb appeal is by maintaining a full, green lawn. And you might be surprised to learn overseeding will help you achieve this result. Here, DRS Lawn & Landscape, a top landscaper in Long Valley, NJ, shares what it means to overseed and how it can help your front lawn.

What Is Overseeding?

Just as the name implies, overseeding includes adding more grass seeds to your yard than you'd think necessary. Even if your grass is already looking good, doesn't have many bald patches, and is a nice green color, spreading additional seeds over it will make it thicker, fuller, and softer.

Before You Overseed

landscaperIt is best to prepare your lawn before spreading grass seeds. Take the time to mow using the extra-short blade option. Then, remove the clippings. This will allow the seeds to get close to the soil, take in adequate sunlight, and absorb more moisture. Going over your lawn with a metal rake beforehand will also help remove debris and loosen up the dirt.

After You Overseed

Once you have distributed the grass using a drop or broadcast seeder, avoid weed and feed products. These can inhibit growth. For the first four days, gently water the lawn twice daily. A sprinkler will provide moisture without washing seeds away. After approximately two weeks, you may return to your typical maintenance routine.
