During the colder months, temperatures drop throughout the country. In an attempt to find food and warmer shelter, many pests relocate to people’s homes. Below are three common indicators termites have invaded your property.

3 Signs There’s a Termite Problem in Your Home

1. You Notice Wings on Home Fixtures & Window Frames

Many termite species have two sets of wings, a larger pair in the front and a smaller pair in the rear. They use the wings as their main mode of transportation. Once they’ve settled into homes, the insects shed their wings. If you find the discarded appendages on home fixtures, including the tops of appliances, ceiling fans, countertops, door frames, and window treatments, chances are termites are hiding inside.

2. Mud Tubes Are Visible on the Walls & Floorboards

termitesFor added insulation, termites travel in mud tubes made of dirt and discarded debris. Building these tubes makes it easier to create shortcuts throughout the house. Look for these structures on the walls and floorboards. They resemble long, spider-web-like tendrils that will gradually move up the surface.

3. Waste on the Ground Near Furniture

Some termites eat wood, which can put your furniture and other wooden items at risk for damage. After feasting on your possessions, the pests leave their droppings on the floor. If you don’t notice the property damage at first, look for small black or brown pellets near the base of furniture.
