Are you planning to buy a Ford soon? Before heading down to the showroom, it will help to familiarize yourself with some of the sales terminology dealers use. After all, an informed buyer often has a higher chance of getting better deals. The following are five terms you’ll likely hear while you’re at the dealership.

5 Terms Ford Dealerships Use

1. MSRP

This abbreviation stands for Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price, or what is known simply as the retail price. It is also referred to as the “window sticker,” as it is legally required to be on the window of every new vehicle a dealership has. The MSRP covers all standard features, factory-installed options, fuel economy ratings, and destination charges.

2. Envelope Close

This is the term used when one of the finance department staff members puts all the sales paperwork into an envelope, seals it, and gives it to the buyer. They will likely instruct the buyer to keep these documents somewhere secure, as they are proof of the sale and need to be retained for as long as you own the vehicle.

3. Trim Package

fordAlso referred to as the appearance package, this is a set of mandatory items from the manufacturer that a dealer may put on their vehicles. These often provide only minor functions and are considered non-essential and may include floor mats, mudguards, door edge guards, pinstripes, and interior upholstery materials.

4. Conveyence Fee

This is a fee a dealer may add at their discretion. It aims to cover the expenses involved in processing the purchase, title, and registration. The amount may vary depending on your location. Some states put a limit on the charge, and it can be negotiable.

5. Extended Warranty

This is a prolonged service contract offered to a buyer in addition to the standard vehicle warranty to offset repair costs. It doesn’t cover regular maintenance, and it takes effect after the expiration of the manufacturer's bumper-to-bumper warranty.
