Perfect smiles are a defining characteristic of most actors and models. And to get those amazingly white, straight teeth, many celebrities turn to cosmetic dentistry. Veneers and dental crowns are commonly used to close gaps and fix discoloration, but some of your favorite stars have even required dental implants. Although most famous people are tight-lipped about which procedures they’ve had, here’s a list of three celebrities who have been vocal about their dental history and how implants improved their oral health.

3 Stars Who Needed Dental Implants

1. Christie Brinkley

As one of the most well-known models of all time, Brinkley has always relied on her smile to land magazine covers and cosmetics contracts. But in 1994, she was involved in a serious helicopter crash during a ski trip in Colorado. Most of her injuries were minor, but she did experience fractured molars. She decided to replace her damaged teeth with dental implants, and she’s commented publicly on her appreciation of their natural look and feel.

2. Kathy Ireland

Some years ago, while playing with her children, she took a nasty spill from a wagon that resulted in a broken nose and teeth. After getting dental implants (a process she described as “easy”) to fix the issue, her appearance is as stunning as ever.

3. Ed Helms

Everyone remembers the scene in The Hangover when Helms’s character Stu—a dentist—pulls his own tooth out. Moviegoers thought it was an amazing piece of CGI work. But the real secret is Helms is afflicted with congenitally missing teeth and has had dental implants for more than 20 years. When he discovered the role required his character to lose a tooth, he collaborated with his dentist to remove one of his implants for filming. The result is hilarious—and completely real.
