The chance to leave the world behind and sink into a silent realm filled with unique specimens is what has enticed so many individuals to learn how to dive. Yet, there may be some trepidation about the scuba diving certification process. Don’t let it get to you. According to the experienced professionals at Southern Ohio Diving Academy in Dayton, OH, there are three simple steps to obtaining your scuba diving license.
3 Steps to Obtaining Your Scuba Diving Certification
Reviewing safety materials and basic diving instructions is one of the first steps you’ll take toward completing your certification. This includes studying at home at your own pace and ensuring you understand all aspects of the sport. Then, you’ll review with an experienced instructor and take the written exam. If you pass, you can begin the physical portion of the process.
These sessions will teach you about safety in the open water. They’re usually held at a local YMCA and last approximately four to six weeks. The purpose of pool training is to train you in proper scuba diving techniques. It also provides a safe place for you to practice reacting to various situations that may arise in the open water.
Open Water Diving
Once you have finished the academic and pool training portion of the certification, you’ll be taken out for a taste of the real thing. Whether it’s in a quarry, lake, or ocean, diving in open water will give you an opportunity to use what you learned and grow accustomed to being in an unpredictable environment. A minimum of four dives is required for completion.
