Purrfect, you’re all here!  For week two of cat health month, I wanted to review the most common problems and how to prevent/treat your feline family member.

Did you know that urinary and kidney problems, hyperthyroidism, and heart disease are the most dangerous illnesses for cats?  That is why Liberty Veterinary Hospital recommends semi-annual exams.  Preventative care is important for all pets, but especially cats who hide their pain well or are indoor pets.  Many people believe their indoor cats are safe from many diseases since they don’t go outside.  However, this doesn’t keep other health issues from arising, so exams are extremely important.

It is best to not wait until there is a problem because it could be too far advanced where treatment may be expensive and/or difficult.  So, keep up on vaccines, exams, and blood work that can help diagnose and treat problems before they become serious.  Even spaying and neutering can eliminate the risk of some forms of cancer.  Your vet at Liberty Vet will ask you questions during the exam about your cats eating habits, litter box use, and social behavior.  Believe it or not, your cat can lose 1-2lbs right under your nose!
