3 Tips for Online Shopping this Holiday Season

With the upcoming holiday season and October named as National Cyber Security Awareness Month, there is no better time than now to share some tips for online shopping safety.

1. Never shop with your debit bank card and don't save your routing or account number online. Criminals can obtain your information and wipe out your bank account. Always use a credit card for online purchases.  Credit cards offer free security alerts such as SSN monitoring, online purchases, and exceeding preset purchase amount thresholds.
2. Verify URL authenticity.  Hackers create fake sites that look exactly like the real company’s site.  Always confirm the exact spelling of the URL you're connecting to-- be aware of slightly misspelled fakes like www.micrsoft.com.  
3. Never shop from an unsecured website (http://).  Verify the site is secure by confirming the site displays the secure lock symbol and the URL begins with (https://).
