Below, they outline the top tips for keeping your live and cut trees healthy and vibrant.

Gardening Experts List Top Tips for Caring for Live & Cut Trees

Prepare Your Tree for Display

While there are many products on the market that promise to keep your holiday tree fresh and green for the duration of the holiday season, remember that it will thrive with simple care, much like a flower. If you are waiting to display your tree, be sure to place it squarely in a tree stand with adequate water. Store it in a dry, cool place. When you are ready to display your tree, trim ¼ inch from the base prior to permanently setting it in the stand. This opens up the pores of the trunk, allowing it to receive water.

Maintain a High Moisture Level

The key to maintaining a healthy-looking tree begins and ends with moisture levels. A fresh-cut tree can consume up to a gallon of water every 24 hours, so be sure to refill it regularly. As a rule of thumb, never allow the water level to go below the tree’s base. Be sure to keep your tree at a safe distance from power sources and heat, including fireplaces.

If you are preparing for the holiday season, a big part of your celebration might be trimming the tree and decorating it with your family.
