1. Temperature

2. Clean the Pool

It’s also important to thoroughly clean the pool, so it will be less work opening it next season. You may wish to lower the water levels to accommodate your pool cover. 

3. Add Winter Chemicals

If you have winter chemicals or pool enzymes, add them to your pool. Then clean the pool filters out as best as you can to ensure no debris or dirt is in there. This includes cleaning all hoses, tanks, and cartridges. The cleaner your pool is, the better it will be when you reopen it. Be sure to remove the drain plugs and open all directional valves to keep optimum water levels.

4. Blow Out the Lines

5. Add Plugs & Shut Off Power

Once you’ve blown the air out of the lines, add the skimmer bottles and plug the lines with freezer plugs or expansion plugs. Then, if necessary, shock the pool. After you’ve done all of the above, you’re ready to shut off the power to the pump and close your pool for the year.
