Bob Aillery, President of the Stright Company in Stamford, Connecticut, tells us about a flooded house experience.

A Stright Company customer called and said: “I have ten thousand gallons of sewage in my basement!”

I’m not sure how he knew the exact number of gallons in his basement but I knew it was a lot.  Stright Company had pumped his Septic Tank just six months previous and we found everything to be just fine back then.

So I began to ask him a series of questions but I hit the mark with just the first two:  Do you have an underground sprinkler system on the property and was it installed over the septic systems Leach Field that Stright Company takes care of.  His answer was yes.

My next question explained the problem.  Have you had any sprinkler leaks?  Yes, a massive one just last week!  That’s our answer.  In this case the sprinkler leak was right on top of the Septic Tank that we at Stright Company serviced for him.

With every inspection Stright Company does we always tell our clients this: In Connecticut it is against State Health Codes for a sprinkler line to be within ten feet of any part of a septic systems Leach Field or Septic Tank.  Avoiding flooding your basement with sewage is a good reason to obey this rule.

Installing sprinkler lines over septic systems can cause premature and an expensive failure to the Leach Field.  At the Stright Company we help our customers avoid problems with education.

Stright Company President Bob Aillery recommends you keep your septic systems working well by having the Stright Company pump and clean your Septic Tank on a regular basis.
