If you’re trying to conceive a child, the day you visit the fertility clinic for your embryo transfer is a very exciting one. Now that you’ve fertilized several embryos, they need to be transferred to the uterus. Once there, ideally, they’ll implant into the uterine lining.

At Pacific In Vitro Fertilization Institute, in Honolulu, HI, they understand that some women are a little anxious when this day comes. You may not be completely sure what to expect from it. That’s why their compassionate fertility doctors are always happy to explain the process in greater detail.

What to Expect on Embryo Transfer Day

Timing & Preparation

The embryo transfer day will be scheduled during the ovulation period, when embryos are more likely to be successfully implanted. The fertility doctor uses ultrasound imaging to implant the embryo correctly. You can help them by drinking a lot of water before the procedure. When you have a full bladder, the results of ultrasound imaging improve.

The Process

Fertility-Clinic-Honolulu-HITo maximize your comfort, the doctor will typically provide a sedative. With a catheter, they’ll remove the embryo from its container, using a microscope to confirm the presence of the embryo in the catheter. Then, they simply, but carefully, insert the embryo. After removing the catheter, they’ll use the microscope again to make sure the embryo was successfully implanted.

After a few moments of rest, you’ll go home with instructions from your doctor regarding what you should expect in the upcoming weeks. Typically, it takes about two weeks before a doctor can confirm if the procedure was a success.

The process is very simple, but it’s still important to choose a fertility clinic where you feel like your concerns will be addressed. At Pacific In Vitro Fertilization Institute, they’ve been treating patients in the Honolulu area for three decades and counting.
