Whether teeth are chipped, decayed, or broken, restorative dental services can provide the long-term solution patients need to attain healthy, beautiful smiles. At the practice of Christopher F. Heck, DMD – Montgomery General Dentistry in Cincinnati, OH, for example, the practice provides a range of restorative dental services that transform smiles. For more functional, attractive teeth, your dentist may recommend one of the following restorative procedures.

1. Dental Crowns

Typically made from composite or porcelain, dental crowns help restore the appearance and function of cracked, chipped, or otherwise damaged teeth. They may cover any part of the tooth visible above the gum line. Since they are custom-crafted to match the natural color of your teeth, they seamlessly blend with the rest of the smile. They can also be used to correct cosmetic alignment issues or tooth shape, especially if the teeth have existing damage or repair.

2. Dental Bridges

When two or more adjacent restorative dental servicesteeth are severely damaged or missing, a dental bridge may help fully restore the smile’s appearance and function. Dental bridges consist of two or more artificial teeth that may be constructed from porcelain or composite material. They are fixed in the mouth, which means they cannot be removed and are considered a permanent restorative solution.  Bridges can also be placed on implants in order to replace several missing teeth without the need for an implant for each missing tooth.

3. Fillings

When you have a cavity, your dentist will most likely address decay with a filling. Fillings may be made from gold, porcelain, metal amalgam, or tooth-colored composite resin. However, Dr. Heck only uses tooth-colored resin for fillings. It is better and safer than the older alternatives.  The composite-resin material seals up the hole formed from the decay or old leaking filling, which helps prevent further damage.  They are bonded into your teeth and flex better with your tooth to help prevent cracks commonly seen with silver fillings.

Dentures, veneers, and dental implants are other common restorative dental services that help patients attain beautiful, healthier smiles.
