A chain link fence is a wonderful addition to any home. But whether you’re due for an upgrade or in the mood for a new look, you might find that at some point, you have to replace it. Before you can install your new amenity, though, you'll have to clear the old one away. But what is the best way to get rid of your fence? To make the removal process as streamlined and simple as possible, utilize the tips below.

4 Tips to Easily Remove Your Chain Link Fence

1. Clear the Ground

To start, locate a stretch of flat ground close to the fence. This will be the area where you’ll begin your work. Choose one side of the fence—preferably the side without the top rail—and clear an area as wide as the fence is tall, plus two additional feet. Cover or tie up any nearby plants to protect them.

2. Remove the Fence Fabric

Chain Link FenceNext, locate an end or corner post—these are wider than the other fence posts, which will make your work easier. The end of the fence fabric will be attached here with a tension bar. Loosen the bolts and remove the tension bar, and then measure out a length of fence fabric and cut the ties holding it to the posts. Roll up the fence fabric as you free it.

3. Remove the Top Rail

Once you have dealt with the fence fabric, examine the top rail of the fence and see how it is attached to the posts. You may need to unscrew rail sections, or, if they’ve been welded, you might have to cut them apart.

4. Remove the Fence Posts

Chain link fences are usually embedded in concrete. As such, removing each post and its concrete base in one piece is ideal. Dig around the base of the post and concrete, using water to loosen the soil. If you cannot remove the concrete, you may have to cut the posts.
