On January 14th, Touro College Graduate School of Technology (GST) held its one day winter institute in New York City. Twenty-five attendees, including current students, business owners, and industry professionals, gathered together for a workshop on "Taking Advantage of Social Media and Photography." With the growing sophistication of social media platforms, visual content is increasingly becoming a more important element of a strong marketing campaign.
Professor Jesse Epstein of Touro College led the first presentation of
the day, introducing attendees to the history of photography and the mechanics of how it works. Understanding the best practices for composing a picture is vital for taking attention-getting photos, so Professor Epstein shared information about lighting, composition, color balance, and the other details that go into making a great image.
Attendees gathered around pizza provided by the college to discuss their perspectives on what they’d learned, then met again for a presentation by Kate DiGiacomo, Social Reputation Manager at LocalVox, regarding successful strategies for an effective social media presence. Among the topics she introduced were such vital skills as setting up social media profiles, best practices for posting, and free tools for building an online audience. Keeping with the
theme of the seminar, the presentation included many tips for optimizing social media posts that include images to encourage maximum exposure and engagement.
