Patients who wear contact lenses enjoy a variety of benefits, including comfort, clear vision, and convenience. In contrast to eyeglasses, however, strict hygiene and maintenance compliance is essential for keeping your eyes healthy. Dr. Ron Sealock recommends all patients follow his guide to cleaning, storing, and wearing contact lenses. By following his maintenance plan, you will reduce your chances of eye disease and damage to the product.

How to Maintain Contact Lenses

Wash & Dry

To properly maintain your contacts, wash and dry your hands before handling them or touching your eyes. This keeps away harmful dirt and bacteria. It’s also important to follow product instructions, as well as your eye doctor’s recommendations on how to clean and store your lens type. Use the correct storage case for your lens brand, and replace the case every two to three months to maintain cleanliness.

Disinfect

contact lenses You should also disinfect your lenses regularly. If you are unsure about the right cleaning solution, consult with your eye doctor. While solutions may vary, it is important to avoid disinfecting your lenses with saline solution or rewetting drops. These mixtures were not designed to clean contact lenses and may damage them. Also, you should always use a fresh, clean solution to store your lenses. It is recommended for you to change it daily to keep your eyes safe.

Change & Remove

Never wear your lenses overnight, and change the disposable ones as often as the instructions indicate. You can also keep your eyes healthy and contacts maintained by removing them before you jump in a lake, swim in a pool, or relax in a hot tub. If you’re going on vacation, do not put your solution and lenses in travel containers. These packages can affect the sterility of your solution, which can cause eye infections. Lastly, do not share contact lenses or cases with friends or family members.

By following these tips and visiting your eye doctor regularly for exams, you can keep your contacts in top shape and your eyes healthy.
