The way to a dog’s heart is through their stomach, which is why you probably love to share food with your pup. But not all human foods are fit for canines to eat. In fact, feeding your dog the wrong foods may lead to an emergency visit to the pet hospital. Here is a list of foods that are safe to feed your pooch.

4 People Foods Your Dog Can Eat

1. Fruits

Watermelon, berries, bananas, and apple slices are foods you can share with your dog. Apples, in particular, are a great source of vitamin C and help clean out your dog’s teeth. However, remove the core and seeds before giving your dog an apple. Seeds are toxic and could land your dog in the pet hospital.

2. Vegetables

Baby carrots are high in fiber as well as vitamin A. Your dog will probably enjoy crunching on these. You can also offer them green beans if they don’t contain any added salt.

3. Proteins

Your dog may also like cooked salmon or scrambled eggs. Another protein favorite is peanut butter, which is great for hiding medicine your dog needs to take. Use only raw, unsalted peanut butter, however.

4. Dairy

Some dogs are lactose intolerant, so monitor their reaction to dairy. You can start with a small portion of cottage cheese or reduced fat sliced cheese. Yogurt is also good for your dog’s digestive system, but make sure it doesn’t have added sugars or artificial sweeteners. Xylitol is especially dangerous, as it can lead to hyperglycemic shock and liver failure in dogs.

For each of these foods, start with small quantities and observe your dog’s reactions closely. Certain foods are completely off limits because they’re toxic to your dog. These foods include candy, coffee, alcohol, and seeds.
