Is to Ignore them! If you haven’t filed your federal income tax returns and ignore the notices the IRS will file for you. When they will file these returns you will likely owe them money often lots of money.  They only use the income information and none of your dependents or deductions will be on these returns.  Now that you owe them money they will begin to collect it. If you owe the IRS money and ignore the notices they will take collection action.  After the proper notices are sent out by IRS they can levy your bank account and wages.  They can file a federal tax lien as well. This impacts your credit score and ability to borrow money.    If you didn’t file an Arkansas state income tax return and had a filing requirement the State of Arkansas will take the federal income information and file an Arkansas tax return for you.  You will owe them money and they will file a lien even for smaller balances.  If you owe them money and ignore it their collector is the County Sherriff. The Department of Finance and Administration will assign you collection case to the County Sherriff and you will be served by a Deputy Sherriff who will be knocking on your door. These actions by the federal and state government can often be avoided. There are a number of options to resolve tax problems.  If you ignore them you can make matters worse and you can take away some of the options we have to get it you a workable solution. Robby
