Cruising the beautiful waterways of the San Francisco Bay and the surrounding areas on a chartered yacht is a memorable way to celebrate special events with a large group of family, friends, or business associates. The climate on the bay is typically mild, with highs reaching 70 degrees and lows rarely below 45 degrees. Strong wind gusts are common, as are sprays of saltwater propelled by air currents. Knowing what to wear under those conditions can be tricky. Read on so you will have a clear idea of the best clothing to wear during your cruise.

A Guide to Yacht Charter Dress Code

What Are the Best Clothing Options?

YachtWhile there isn’t a strict boating dress code per se, you will want to board the yacht in attire that is comfortable and appropriate for the conditions. Dress in light layers that can be removed if the temperatures become too hot. During the day, long pants or shorts and a cardigan or windbreaker can be worn over a long- or short-sleeved shirt or tank top. If you’re attending an evening dinner cruise when temperatures will be lower, slacks and a top with a light jacket or windbreaker are perfect.

Boat shoes or rubber soled shoes with closed toes are recommended, as are light colored soles that won’t scuff the boat deck. Your shoes should have non-slip soles to prevent you from sliding around the wet deck. Walking up and down the stairs will also be easier if you’re wearing safe, casual shoes.

What Should You Bring?

Depending on the departure time, some supplies will be good to have on hand. If you’re out during a sunny afternoon, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat may be necessary. If you suffer from motion sickness or you’re a bit nervous about being on the water, bring some natural ginger candies to calm your stomach. All of your items can be carried in a stylish tote bag and utilized as needed.
