Keeping your car in good condition requires a lot of care, but it doesn’t mean you have to bring it into the shop every time it needs cleaning. Precision Collision & Auto Glass of Frankfort in MI is one of the area’s leading car detailing experts, and they’ve gathered some cleaning and maintenance tips you can perform independently.

Car detailing is an important part of vehicle ownership, so here are three ways you can keep your car clean:

  • Windshield: One of the most simple car detailing procedures you can perform is cleaning your vehicle’s windshield. Use warm, soapy water or a glass cleaner to wash the interior and exterior of your windshield; then, dry it with a soft cloth. To make it easier, wipe down one side horizontally and the other vertically—if you have streaks after cleaning the windshield, this allows you to determine which side of the window they’re on.
  • car-detailingAir Vents: Your car’s air vents pump hot and cold air throughout your vehicle. They can also pick up a lot of dirt and airborne debris over time, so cleaning them periodically is important. Your vents can be easily cleaned by using an old paint or makeup brush: simply brush the vents, and vacuum up any dust that falls from them to ensure it doesn’t remain in your vehicle.
  • Air Filters: The air filter in your vehicle is designed to collect debris that enters your car’s air conditioning unit. It not only helps improve the indoor air quality of your vehicle but its engine performance and fuel efficiency as well. To determine whether your air filter needs cleaning or replacement, open the hood, and find your vehicle’s air filter box, which will be located in the engine. Remove and inspect the filter for wear and tear: if it’s covered in debris, it needs to be changed or cleaned immediately.
