Obtaining a concealed carry permit for your firearms comes with a slew of laws and regulations. What Qualifications Do I Need to Meet? 

You must be 21 years old and meet the general laws of owning firearms. Some of these include being a legal United States citizen and having no conviction of a felony or hostile misdemeanor.

How Do I Apply for One? 

You need to complete a handgun training course approved by the Department of Public Safety. Upon completion, an application should be submitted to an Alaska State Trooper office. The application should include a photo taken 30 days after finishing the training course, fingerprints taken by an approved Department of Public Safety technician, and a check for $89.75.

What if My Name or Address Changes? 

If you change your address, notify the department of Public Safety and complete a Change of Address notification. Upon a legal name change, however, you must submit a replacement application and a certified document reflecting your name change. This also comes with a $25 fee.  

Does the Permit Expire? 

firearmA concealed carry permit is valid until your birthday in the fifth year after it was issued. To renew your license, you must complete a renewal application and submit it to the Alaska Concealed Carry Office. You must include a photo taken within 30 days of the application and a $25 fee. After permit expiration, there is an additional $25 late fee added on. An application will not be approved if more than 60 days have passed. 

What Happens if It's Lost or Stolen? 

If something happens to your concealed carry permit, you are required to submit a replacement application. You must include a photo taken within 30 days of the application and a $25 fee. 

Does it Apply Outside of Alaska? 

It depends on the laws of the states you're visiting. Some states that don't reciprocate Alaska’s legislation include California, Oregon, and Washington.
