Keeping a functioning roof over your head is the most important thing you can do to protect your home. However, a roof’s constant fight against nature’s elements is bound to leave some battle scars. Allsystems Roofing has replaced many roofs and is well aware of which issues that most often plague a home. If you notice one of the following issues with your roof, contact a specialist immediately.

The Most Common Roof Issues

Leaks

Water is one of your roof’s most dangerous enemies. Water has an ability to find its way into cracks and into your roof’s internal structure. If this occurs, mold may be produced, which could lead to the degradation of your roof’s structural integrity. Water also shouldn’t be able to pool up the top of a roof. If this happens there is most likely a water drainage issue that needs to be fixed.

Overhanging Trees

RoofNo tree branch should make contact with your roof. Continuous rubbing will tear up roof shingles and damage the functionality of your roof. Even if a tree doesn’t make contact with your home, if a tree is striking distance away from your home, it should be cut back. One storm is enough to uproot a tree and have it fall on your home.

Poorly Installed Flashing

The purpose of a flashing is to seal places where a roof may be susceptible to the elements. Flashing is most often used around chimneys, cooling systems, vent pipes, and other areas of the home that need a little extra protection. If these parts of the home aren’t properly sealed, water, wind, and animals will more easily be able to access your home.

Bugs & Animals

Tiny critters may not seem like a big issue, but they can leave your roof vulnerable to the elements. Don’t allow animals to make a habit of creating homes on your roof.

Keep a peeled eye out for any roof issues. Year-round maintenance is the key to a healthy roof. If you have a problem that’s gone unchecked for too long, call Allsystems Roofing at (859) 278-5739.
