Before you head out on your charter, there are a few important items you need to pick up from the tackle shop. Woody’s Sports Center in Port Aransas, TX, is a team of master fisherman and sailors who know what you need to have the fishing trip of a lifetime. Explore their offshore fishing checklist below to make your next tour perfect.

Offshore Fishing Trip Supply Checklist

Fishing Trip Necessities

offshore fishingOn each charter, bring your fishing license, gunny sack, and cash to pay for items on the boat, such as gratuities or fish cleaning fees. You also need a hat, sunglasses, and sunblock SPF 30 or above. Pack a hand towel and ice chest to make handling and transporting of your fish easier. Deck boots or non-slip shoes are also recommended instead of sandals or flip flops.

If you wear shorts and a T-shirt to begin your journey, consider packing pants and a jacket in case conditions change. It’s also beneficial to bring your own water and snacks if you do not want to purchase items on the boat. Charter captains also recommend taking seasickness medication before your trip and bringing some with you, especially if you are prone to motion sickness or have never been on a fishing boat before.

Tackle Essentials

If you have your own tackle, offshore fishing experts recommend bringing a spinning or conventional rod and reel combo that can equip a 20 to 40 lbs. test line. You can also rent tackle at the shop before embarking on your trip. Additional helpful tools include braided lines, torpedo sinkers, bait hooks, and circle hooks, especially if your group plans on rock fishing. When in doubt about your tackle supply, visit the shop for assistance.
