Last month, students across the country competed in the 2014 JEI Essay Contest, which took place on Saturday, November 15th. An impressive 300 writers from grades 2-7 competed, putting their writing skills to use in a fun and encouraging environment. The essay contest was held at six locations (three on each coast), along with a few select local centers in California, Massachusetts, Texas, and Canada as well.

Lasting one hour, this essay contest was designed to test students' ability to write clearly on a given topic within the specific time frame. Each grade level received a different topic at the beginning of the contest, with 2nd-5th graders given creative writing prompts while 6th and 7th graders were told to complete a literature analysis.

While the participants worked on their essays, their parents had the opportunity to join Parent Seminars, which were held in LA, Northern California, and New Jersey. For West Coasters, the topic was SBAC testing, while East Coast parents learned more about the PARCC exam.

In the end, all participants received a medal. Awards were given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, while awards of merit were also distributed to a select group of other participants in each grade.

The JEI Learning Center is extremely proud of all our students and thrilled with the success of this year's essay contest. We would like to thank everyone for making this event such a hit! We can't wait until next year!
