Preschool is the often first time a child is away from their parents for an extended period. While some kids thrive in new environments, others get nervous. Helping your toddler prepare for their preschool education will make the transition smoother and more exciting. At Great Beginnings in St. Charles and Cottleville, MO, children are given the tools and support to flourish socially and academically. The learning center focuses on promoting healthy child development while providing a safe, fun environment. Below, they suggest a few things you can do to make starting preschool an easier process.

1. Visit the Facility

One of the best things you can do is take your child to tour the preschool they will be attending and meet their teacher. This allows them to become familiar with the environment and the people they will be spending time with. If you have permission to do so, visit the playground to show your child how much fun they will have.

2. Practice Separation

preschool education St. Charles MOIf your child has never been away from you before, they may experience separation anxiety when they begin preschool. While this is normal, it’s important to try and alleviate this as much as possible. Start leaving your child with friends, family members, or a babysitter for short periods to help them get used to being with others.

3. Have an Open Dialogue

Communicate with your child often about their new adventure, and try to get them excited about their preschool education. Read books about going to school and play games where you take turns in the student and teacher roles. Listen to their feelings and acknowledge their fears, then remind them all the things they’re going to like about school.

The more you do to prepare your child for their preschool education, the better both of you will feel when the first day of school arrives.
