Summer is a time we are all on the go.  From baseball games to picnics, don’t let your busy times add inches to your waistline.  Instead of giving in to food cravings while in a rush, instead carry these items with you each day. Some days it may take several options to deter unnecessary eating, others a simple stick of gum may do the trick.

Don’t leave home without...

  • Bottled water.  Being thirsty is often mistaken for hunger. Try hydrating first. If you need flavor add a lemon slice, a low-calorie drink powder or essential grapefruit or lemon oil for a subtle kick.
  • Sugar-free Gum/Mints.  This simple trick keeps your mouth busy without the calories.
  • Toothbrush/toothpaste:  Carry a travel size pack and brush after meals or anytime you feel the urge to eat.  This provides a cue that you are done eating.
  • Apple. Shelf stable snack with a good amount of fiber.

If all of these don’t seem to do the trick, think about what you have had to eat so far in the day. Is there room for a snack? I like to use the “Apple Test”.  Are you hungry enough to eat an apple? If not, you are not truly hungry. If so, eat the apple. :)
