Most homeowners don’t think much about their garbage and recyclables once they’re picked up by a trash service. However, it’s good to know that all your sorting and separating isn’t going to waste. At Honolulu Disposal Service in Hawaii, they partner with the best recycling and trash services in the state to make sure your waste is disposed of properly.

5 Trash Services Used by Honolulu Disposal Service

1. Maui Disposal

This is the largest locally owned and operated solid waste hauling and recycling company on Maui, with a customer base of over 2,500. They’re also the biggest recycling organization in the state of Hawaii and collect and process cardboard, newspaper, office paper, glass, plastic, aluminum, green waste, and metals. As the only Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in the state, they can sort commingled recyclables from rubbish every day and ship them to market.

2. H-Power

Owned by the City & County of Honolulu, H-Power (Honolulu Program of Waste Energy Recovery) consumes 3,000 tons of garbage per day. Instead of going to landfills, waste is burned in a furnace to produce steam for a turbine generator, which is then sold as electricity to Hawaiian Electric. This reduces the volume of refuse that heads to landfills by 90% and produces up to 10% of the electricity used by homes on Oahu.

3. Garden Isle Disposal (GID)

trash-services-honolulu-hiGID is the largest privately owned solid waste service company for commercial accounts on Kauai. They have various recycling locations around the island that allow glass, newspapers, cardboard, plastics, junk mail, and aluminum and steel.

4. Reynolds Recycling

Located throughout Hawaii, Reynolds Recycling is the state’s largest beverage recycler. During its 37 years of operation, their 40 locations have recycled over three billion aluminum cans. They’re also the state’s largest certified redemption center network and accept plastic bottles, glass bottles, steel, and bi-metal cans in addition to aluminum.

5. Hawaiian Earth Products

Each year, Hawaiian Earth Products creates up to 90,000 tons of their Menehune MAGIC™ compost and mulches from recycled green waste. On average, this reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills by up to 20%.
