Are you looking to customize your clothing in an exciting way? The two most common means of apparel embellishment are screen printing and embroidery. While using either method will result in a cool, custom look, there are some differences in the processes that could change the appearance and feel of the ensemble.

Screen Printing

embroideryScreen printing is the process of putting ink on a substrate to create an image. A stencil is created for each color of the design and then laid over a mesh screen. Ink or paint is then pushed through the screen, layering one color at a time, until the image is complete. While the substrate can be a variety of different materials, screen printing Is most often done on flat, fabric surfaces. For this reason, items like T-shirts, sweaters, and tote bags are best for screen printing.  Compared to embroidery, screen printing is often more affordable and can be used to create more intricate designs.

Embroidery

Embroidery is the process of stitching a design or logo. Unlike screen printing, there is no ink or paint involved, simply thread and a needle. Embroidery results in a raised look that is complementary to items like hats, shirts, and jackets. Embroidery is beautiful when done well, but it is difficult to create small designs or details using just a needle and thread. You can still have multiple colors incorporated into your embroidery design, but the process is more expensive than screen printing.
