If you are new to the pool hall scene, there are a few etiquette tips to keep in mind before attempting your first shot. As with any other game or sporting event, pool requires following certain courtesy guidelines. Use these tips from the billiard experts at The Office Lounge in Foley, AL, to ensure your upcoming game goes well.

Here are a few pool hall etiquette tips you should be sure to follow:

  • No Distractions: Make no attempts to distract other players, which is known as “sharking.” Stand out of the way instead of stirring your drink, talking loudly, or doing anything else your opponent will consider distracting. Wait your turn quietly to show the other person respect.

  • pool hallNo Hustling: Refrain from trying to hustle your opponents. It may look cool in movies, but it is an easy way to get kicked out of the bar without a return invitation. Keep the game friendly instead of trying to place bets. If you want to bet on pool, do it at home or a friend’s residence.

  • No Criticizing: Do not criticize the other player, as this will be seen as heckling. Feel free to congratulate your opponent on a nice shot, but that is it. Anything else will be considered bad sportsmanship.

  • No Standing at the Table: Stand back from the pool table while your opponent is playing. Take special care not to stand at the pockets, as this could be viewed as a form of distraction.

  • No Excuses: Remember not to make excuses for any shots you miss. Whether you are new at playing pool or not, everyone misses shots every so often. Complaining about it will only annoy the other player and anyone else who happens to be watching the game.
