OSHA training for your employees is essential for keeping the workplace safe and up to code. By taking the right steps, you’ll ensure the process is engaging for everyone. When your employees are actively immersed in training, they retain more information and will be adept at applying the material. Here are a few ideas to help hold your employees’ attention, so they gain the most from every training session.

Tips for Better OSHA Training

1. Give a Pre-Test

A test at the end of a training course is fairly standard, but to improve results, try giving that same test at the beginning of the class. Make it clear to your employees that no one will see their answers, so they’re free to make their best guess. The pre-test serves two purposes: It helps your employees understand where they stand regarding OSHA knowledge so they can better appreciate what they learn, and it provides an overview of the material before you dive into the details.

2. Provide Note Packets

Taking notes can make the learning process lag, and employees focused on writing may miss your next point. On the other hand, giving complete handouts may tempt your employees to read ahead and ignore the presentation. Instead, prepare note packets which outline the information, but are missing keywords or bullet points in each section. Your employees will be increasingly attentive as they listen for the missing answers.

3. Involve Your Employees

Give your eOSHA trainingmployees opportunities to speak about their experiences and prior knowledge. Involve them in scenarios and examples. Use a hands-on approach whenever possible. The more active your employees are in training, the more likely they are to pay attention.

With prior planning and a little creativity, holding your employees’ attention during their OSHA training will be a breeze. Take advantage of these techniques, and make your workplace safer!
