Just like you, your pet needs regular visits to the doctor to remain healthy. Before your pet’s next wellness exam, it’s helpful for everyone involved to know what to expect. That way, you can prepare for a pleasant and stress-free experience. Here at Countryside Veterinary Clinic in Charles Town, WV, we take care to ensure that every pet wellness exam helps further a lifetime of excellent health. Here’s what to expect!

Pet wellness examinations help assess the health of your pet, which aids in the detection and prevention of diseases and illnesses. Dr. Dibbern will carefully examine the eyes, teeth, lungs, heart, and lymph nodes of your pet, as well as use a specialized otoendoscope with a camera to check the ears.  You will be able to see all the way down to your pet’s ear drum on our screen!  Technicians will also draw a a small amount of blood to perform a routine heartworm test that also checks for Lyme and  other tick-borne diseases.

pet-wellnessWe are happy to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have about your pet’s lifestyle, diet, or health situation. Bring a list of current foods and medications your pet is consuming. Together, we will ensure your pet leads the healthiest, happiest life possible.

We recommend a number of vaccines to keep your pet healthy. All of our vaccines are extremely safe.  Remember, just like when you get vaccines, your pet may be a little sore the next day.  Never give them any human medication (Tylenol, baby aspirin, etc.) as it can be fatal; instead, just give them a day off to sleep.

Some pets become stressed out at the veterinarian. To help relieve any anxiety surrounding vet visits, make trips a routine part of your life!  Feel free to bring your dog by at any time just to say hi or get weighed. By making short, frequent, non-invasive visits, your dog will not find being at the vet as strange or frightening.  If you have trouble getting your cat in her carrier on vet day, try feeding your cat in the carrier every day.  The cat will quickly associate the carrier with food and hop right in, thinking it’s dinner time!
