Summer is almost here, which means everyone is planning to jump back into their favorite sports and recreational activities. Whether your kids enjoy playing basketball or you’re a slam-dunk enthusiast yourself, now is the perfect time to set up a basketball court in your yard or driveway.

This sport is a simple and fun way to spend time outdoors this summer, and your local paving company can help. Serving Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and California, Beausoleil & Sons provides a variety of paving and construction services for your residential and commercial needs.

Tips From a Paving Company: How to Set up a Basketball Court

1. Choose a Flat Surface

pavingIf you’re not using your driveway, find a flat surface on your property, either in your front or backyard. Then, decide whether you are going to install a full or half court, as this will determine how many basketball hoops you will need.

2. Mark the Dimensions

Mark the dimensions of your court with stakes in the ground, and place one in each corner. You will then need to flatten and pave the area. Of course, this step involves industrial-grade equipment and specialized skills, so leave the responsibility to your local paving company.

3. Paint the Lines

Once the pavement has settled, paint the out-of-bounds lines around the perimeter of your basketball court, as well as the center line, free-throw line, three-point arc, center circle, and boxes. Spray paint and stencils work best for this.

4. Install the Hoops

Once the paint dries, install your basketball hoops on either side of the court. Then, you’re ready to play!
