Choosing Between a Single-Family Home, Townhome, & Condo for Sale

Single-Family Home: Pros & Cons

Single-family homes have dominated real estate in Colorado for years, but as Denver grows, other options have risen in popularity. The perk of a single-family home is that you end up owning the structure and the lot which provides for more freedom.

While single-family homes are great for added privacy, they also require more work. You'll be responsible for all the upkeep of the home as well the yard work. Single-family homes are usually located farther away from the center of town, so you'll have to drive to reach shops and restaurants.

Townhomes: Pros & Cons

Townhomes are the middle ground between a single-family home and a condo as you own the lot but are restricted on what you can and cannot do with the property. They provide the benefit of being available with a higher square footage and room quantity than condos, and they're usually priced lower than a single-family home. In a townhouse, you also have the benefit of a front and back yard.

On the other hand, townhomes are attached, so they share walls with your neighbors. You're also likely to be responsible for yard care, and your outdoor area is typically smaller than single-family homes.

Buying a Lifestyle: Deciding Between Single-Family Homes, Townhomes, & Condos for Sale from Cheri Long at Metro Brokers-Priority Properties, IncCondos: Pros & Cons

There are more condos for sale in Denver than ever before. They have become increasingly popular in metropolitan areas, especially among professionals who don't necessarily want to invest time and money in the upkeep of an entire property. Condos typically come with amenities included in the building's facilities, such as gyms, pools, and common areas.

There are some downsides to a condo. You won't have any outdoor space aside from a balcony, so it may be difficult if you or your children enjoy being outside, or if you have pets that need frequent exercise. Usually, condo purchases are accompanied with building restrictions that limit the types of upgrades or remodeling you're permitted to complete.
