Save yourself time and money by knowing what you can and cannot throw away in our green Honolulu Disposal Service bins.  Our disposal service experts want you to know what should not be disposed of in a front-end load bin and when to request for large open-top or rolloff disposal containers instead.

5 Hazardous, Heavy or Bulky Items You Can’t Dump in a Front-End Loader (FEL) Bin

1. Hazardous Materials

Any hazardous materials including pesticides or highly flammable products like gasoline or kerosene need to be handled carefully and disposed of properly. These items are not allowed in any of our disposal containers.  There are coordinated drop-off days held every two months at a hazardous waste facility. You can also call to schedule an appointment, but make sure you have a detailed inventory of the products.  Visit Opala.org for more information.

2. Rock and Concrete

Construction debris or rock and concrete should not be dumped in front-end loaded bins. To dispose of this type of material properly, give Honolulu Disposal Service a call and request a quote for a construction open-top bin.  We provide free estimates for all of your waste disposal needs.

3. Furniture & Mattressesrecycling

Don’t dump your bulky furniture or mattresses in front-end loader bins. The City and County of Honolulu has monthly bulky item pick-up days to ensure that any large items are picked up safely and not dumped or left abandoned.  Moving or have a lot of bulky items to throw away?  Request a quote from Honolulu Disposal Service for a large open-top container.

4. Tires

Tires cannot be disposed of in our FEL bins or mixed open-top bins. They can be dropped off at the city convenience center, or you can return them to a dealer when buying new tires. You can also bring your tires to a recycling company on the island where they will be shredded and burned for electricity or crumbled to make crumb rubber for landscaping.

5. Propane Tanks

If you need to get rid of your propane tank, don’t put it in the regular trash collection. If mishandled, propane containers can explode. Instead, bring it back to the convenience center where it will be emptied of any remaining gas and the metal containers will be recycled.

Recycling or disposing of these items correctly can save you time and money on your disposal bill.
