3 Simple Steps to Remove Your Old Garage Doors, Olive Branch, Mississippi

If you want to replace your garage doors, the first step is to remove the old parts. Modern automatic doors operate using many moving parts, such as springs, pulleys, hinges, tracks, and rollers. As such, it can be a bit confusing to properly remove them. But by following a few key steps, the process should be simple.

Step-by-Step Guide to Remove Your Garage Doors

1. Release the Tension & Remove the Springs

Springs and cables are located along the sides of the overhead doors, and they help your garage move along the track upon opening and closing. To begin taking apart the doors, remove the tension from these springs.

Start by opening your garage door completely. Once it is open, use clamps or pliers to lock it into place. When the garage door is locked, release the cables and remove the springs. Then, take off the pliers or clamps and close the door.

Next, you need to release the garage’s hinges. To do this, you will need a drill and screwdriver. Begin by removing the screws from the garage door hinges. Once they are removed, be careful, as your garage door panels will now hang freely. Use your clamps again to secure the individual panels as you remove separate components.

3. Remove the Rollers

Finally, remove the rollers from each side of the door. If you have a sectional garage, you will need to repeat this step for each panel. You can extract each panel and set it aside as the rollers are taken away.
