Keep your body feeling good in between chiropractic care visits by stretching daily. Chiropractors frequently recommend stretching and exercising, so patients can maintain their flexibility and reduce, if not eliminate, back, hip, leg, and neck pain. It is generally best to use an exercise mat when stretching to reduce pressure on your joints and to stop whenever you feel tired or whenever you’re experiencing excessive pain.

Review three helpful stretches to try in the days or weeks in between chiropractic adjustments:

Back Arch

Alleviate lower back pain by using this stretch to reduce pressure on your spine. Simply lie flat on the floor, and place your hands on the back of your knees. Bring your knees to your chest using your abdominal muscles and hands. Do not use your back muscles when performing this stretch, as it will increase spinal pressure. Hold the pose for seven seconds and release. Perform the stretch up to 10 times per session.

Hamstring Stretch

chiropractic carePrevent tightness in your back legs that contributes to back, hip,and knee problems with this easy hamstring stretch. Sit down, and bend one leg while keeping the other leg straight. Rotate the straight leg, so it moves inward while you lean forward and reach for your toes. Hold this pose for 30 seconds and then, rotate the leg outward, and reach for your toes again. Repeat this action with your other leg. You want to perform this stretch a minimum of five times a day for best results.

Seated Neck Release

Sit on the floor in the classic cross-legged position. Extend your right arm so it is next to your right knee. Take your left hand and place it on top of your head while slowly moving your head to the left. Stretch further by using your left hand to apply slight pressure. Hold the position for 30 seconds and then, release and repeat on the other side.
