Smiling aside, without a full set of teeth, eating, drinking and even talking can be difficult. If you’ve had multiple tooth extractions due to gum disease or an accident, it’s important to replace missing teeth to prevent further complications in your mouth. Without all of the teeth, the jaw line and the bite will shift, causing problems eating, speaking, and often lowering your confidence to smile.

While dental implants are a common solution, they are costly, and not everyone is an ideal candidate, especially patients with cancer, who struggle with alcoholism or who have suffered too much bone loss. For these patients, family dentist, Kathleen Kujiraoka, DDS recommends dentures.

denturesThe main benefit of dentures is having a full set of pearly whites. They are a fraction of the cost of dental implants and will give the wearer the beautiful look of porcelain veneers. There are two types of dentures: complete and partial.

Complete dentures are exactly how they sound— they’re a complete set of replacement teeth attached to a pink or gum-colored plastic base that is fitted to the wearer’s mouth. Partial dentures are typically used when one or more natural teeth remain in the mouth, and the element is designed to fit snugly with the remaining natural teeth. With whichever type your dentist recommends, you will feel confident about smiling again.

At a fraction of the cost of porcelain veneers and dental implants, dentures are an excellent way to achieve a beautiful smile and preserve your overall oral health. They are meant to look and feel natural, improve your smile, and even fill out the appearance of your face.
