For those versed in the world of superfoods, acai berries have been rapidly developing a reputation as one of the healthiest foods on earth. Boasting a wide array of health benefits and a versatile, satisfying taste, they may soon replace avocados as America's superfood du jour.

Farm CafeKahuku Farms, a family-owned farm located on the beautiful North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii has just introduced the first Hawaiian, locally grown acai berries known and is featured in their Farm Cafe's new acai bowls. It's the latest wholesome attraction for a destination that’s become synonymous with local charm and farm fresh food.

Acai bowls have become increasingly popular at juice and smoothie cafes, as they’re packed with vitamins and can help your skin and strengthen your immunity. The Brazilian berries are stocked with fiber and antioxidants and, compared with most fruits, low in sugar. For the most part, they’re sold and distributed in America in puree form. This is one of the ways Kahuku Farm’s new acai bowls distinguish themselves from the mainland and island versions.

Eight years ago, Kahuku Farms planted their first acai trees. After close to a decade, the trees have finally matured, and their berries can be found in the Farm Cafe's new acai bowls. It's one more landmark for a farm with humble beginnings that has become a signature spot for both locals and tourists, a place to indulge in healthy local cuisine and see all the ways locally grown food benefits the community.

With farming in their blood, the Matsuda and Fukuyama families are also passionate about educating the public on sustainable agriculture and the role local farms play in the food chain. Sharing knowledge about what goes into farming and its importance to Hawaiian life is just as valuable as selling produce and their locally sourced smoothies, panini, and banana sundaes available at their cafe.
