Bob Aillery, President of the the Stright Company in Stamford, Connecticut reports the following.
“I have been asked about the Stright Company 2014/15 court case I was involved in with the City of Stamford (The City). The evidence used was profoundly false as I will explain.
This case revolved around meter readings in two street sewer manholes. The City claimed data taken from these meters ‘proved’ Stright Company dumped millions of gallons of sewage into the public sewers.
The data was analyzed by a Westport, Connecticut Professional Engineer and he found the following:
The meter in manhole #1 was set high so that it did not read the flow of 37 uphill houses and consistently had a zero reading.
The meter in manhole #2 was set all the way to the bottom of the pipe so that the 37 houses not measured in manhole #1 would be read and attributed to Stright Company dumping.
The City was actually measuring normal waste water through these pipes and falsely attributing it to Stright Company.
The City used standard hydraulic equations but ignored slope calculations which multiplied the meter readings by approximately twenty times.
With simple averaging math “errors” they arbitrarily added 50% or more to each meter reading.
To understand how this affected their results I will give you two dramatic examples which are also typical.
On the weekend of 26 and 27 October 2013 the City claimed Stright Company dumped nearly 25,000 gallons of sewage. This represents ten full truckloads and two weeks worth of Stright Company work in just two days; but nobody at Stright Company was working and the doors were all locked shut. The City’s claim is not possible and not true.
On the weekend of 22 and 23 March 2014 the City claimed Stright Company dumped nearly 16,000 gallons; this when nobody at Stright Company worked and I was in New York City all day with my family on Saturday and in Church most of the day on Sunday. Again the City’s claim is not possible and not true.
I agreed to a plea bargain to avoid the bankruptcy of litigation and not because I agreed with the evidence.
I no longer have to remain silent on the subject and can defend myself in the public arena.
I wish to give a big Thank You to all of Stright Company’s loyal customers who have stood by us through the years.”
