Embroidery is more than a popular pastime—it’s an art. When you embroider, you use a needle and thread to sew patterns and designs on cloth.

However, doing this by hand is the slow way of embroidering.  It’s much easier and faster to use a sewing machine that does the embroidery work for you!  We have a variety of Pfaff and Husqvarna Viking sewing machines that not only sew, but also embroider.  We also carry embroidery software and many beautiful designs that are ready to load into your embroidery machine and stitch out immediately. Bring out your creative side and manipulate the designs and colors to suit you or create your own!    We also provide free sewing/embroidery lessons on your machine with purchase.  What could be easier?

If you want to learn hand embroidery, here are the four essential tools and supplies you’ll need:

  • Needles: If you have your mom’s old sewing needles lying around the house, you could use those, but if you really want to learn the art of embroidery, it helps to purchase a set of needles. Needles come in all sorts of varieties, but you should start with the crewel, tapestry, and the milliner needles.
  • Embroidery Hoops: An embroidery hoop is what will keep the fabric taut while you’re stitching. Although not all experts use a hoop, if you’re just getting started, it will help you keep your lines straight.
  • embroideryThread: Choosing your thread is one of the most exciting parts of embroidering. There are so many threads and specialty fibers, so it might be easiest to start with a six-strand floss.
  • Fabric: The fabric you choose will depend on which techniques and thread you’ll be using. There are three that are best suited for embroidery projects: woven, even-weave, and fabricated fabrics. For people just getting started, start by experimenting on cheap fabric quarters.
