If you’ve never gone in for men’s waxing before, you may not be sure what to expect. New Paradise Men’s Spa of New York City wants you to have the most comfortable and stress-free experience possible. With these guidelines, your visit will be as smooth as your skin.

The day before you hit the spa, you’ll need to make sure your hair is prepared for removal. It may seem strange that you have to trim your hair before a men’s waxing; after all, isn’t it all coming off anyway? The truth is, longer hair is more of a hassle to remove, as it’s more for the wax to grip and harder to get leverage on. At the same time, you also don’t want it to be so short that the wax has nothing to hold on to. In general, anything between a quarter-inch and a half-inch is a good length.

Men's WaxingWhen you trim down, make sure to also show your skin some love. Exfoliating and moisturizing the area you plan to have waxed will help to open your pores and allow your skin to release the hairs more easily. Do this the day before your appointment so your skin is clear of foreign substances during the wax itself.

Waxing pain isn’t unbearable, but you don’t have to endure it at full strength either. An hour before your spa visit, you can take some acetaminophen or ibuprofen to help ease the sting. To keep yourself comfortable after your appointment, you’ll want to wear loose and clean clothing; plan ahead and bring an extra set along with you.
