It’s been a long winter in Rome, WI—but before you know it, the sun will be out, and it’ll be time to break out the fishing supplies and cast the first line of the season! If you’re new to the tradition, Pritzl’s Trading Post recommends these essential fishing supplies for starting off every trip right.

When you’re heading out on the boat this spring, remember to bring the following:

  • Proper Clothing: If you’re hitting the water early in the morning, it’s going to get chilly. Some important essentials to pack include a hat, windbreaker, waders, and long pants to protect you from insects. Bring an extra pair of socks and shoes in case your feet get wet, and ensure your jacket has plenty of pockets. Bug spray and sunglasses are helpful, too.
  • Backup Fishing Rod & Reel: Naturally, you’ll want to bring at least one fishing rod—but don’t forget a backup, just in case something goes wrong. You wouldn’t want to end your trip early because of tangled fishing line or another time-consuming mishap.
  • Backup Tackle Box, Spools & Lures: Maybe you’re sensing a pattern here! Bring plenty of backup spools, lures, hooks, and other small, but important, pieces of fishing equipment. One tackle box can be your primary store, while another can go with you to the water.
  • fishing suppliesFishing Net, Pliers & Tape Measure: Once you’ve finally reeled something in, you’ll need a net to prevent your wriggling catch from getting back in the water. Pliers will help you get the hook out of its mouth, and your tape measure will help you determine whether the fish meets the minimum legal length—or if you broke any records!
  • Fish Cleaning Equipment: Finally catch some regulation-sized keepers? Great—time to clean them on the spot, so they’ll be ready to fry when you get home. For this, you’ll need knives, a multi-tool, and an ice chest to store your catch.

If you require fishing supplies for your upcoming trip, Pritzl's Trading Post has everything you need! If you stop by in May, they’ll even have craft beer for you to enjoy as you set out to catch the big one.
