Starting dental care early helps instill lifelong habits of good dental hygiene in your children. That’s why most family dentists recommend that you schedule your child’s first visit soon after their first tooth comes in or by one year of age. The sooner you start taking them, the easier it will be to teach your child that dental visits are normal and positive experiences. Montgomery dentist Christopher F. Heck, DMD, will guide your child through their first visit and build a foundation that will support their oral health for a lifetime.

family dentistThe first thing Dr. Heck will do is get to know you and your child. He’ll answer any questions you may have about his services, your child’s dental needs, and dentistry in general. He’ll also demonstrate his office equipment for your child to show them that it’s safe and normal. Throughout the visit, Dr. Heck and his staff will do their best to keep your child comfortable and to make their experience at the family dentist’s office a positive one.

Once your child feels comfortable in the office, they’ll be ready for their first dental treatment. Dr. Heck or a member of his staff will clean and polish those tiny teeth, keeping an eye out for any sign of dental problems. Once that’s done, Dr. Heck may recommend a fluoride treatment. Dental fluoride helps strengthen the tooth enamel and keeps it resistant to decay. On your way out, you child will have the opportunity to choose a prize for being a good patient.

If your child’s first birthday is coming up or their teeth are coming in, they’re due for an appointment with the family dentist. Call Christopher F. Heck, DMD, at (513) 794-1884, or check out his website to learn more about his services.
