February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, which means the dedicated oral surgeons and surgical staff at Oral Surgery Associates of Alaska in Anchorage is doing their part to spread the word about good dental health for children. This month, experts across the United States highlight the importance of proactive dental care for kids and what you can do to keep your child’s mouth, teeth, and jaw healthy.

anchorage-oral-surgeonsThis month, the American Dental Association and the ADA Foundation will promote good oral health in kids by reaching out to parents, teachers, dental professionals, and healthcare providers. Every year, the organizations choose a dedicated, action-oriented dental campaign while providing tips such as which foods and beverages to avoid and the best ways to encourage children to practice at-home care.

This year’s campaign slogan, “Choose Tap Water for a Sparkling Smile,” stresses the importance of fluoridated tap water to build healthy teeth in kids. Encouraging conversations, games, and adult round-table discussions that advance clean, restorative tap water and community dental care, the ADA provides a month of activities and visuals to teach children about the importance of positive, lifelong dental habits.

Activity sheets and educational posters are available to the general public on the ADA website so parents, schools, and dentists can make the most of the educational opportunity. The goal is to inspire an entire year of dental health, propelling children into a future of bright, strong teeth and gums.
